Chad Staddon

Chad Staddon received his PhD in Geography from the University of Kentucky in 1996 for research on the political economy of water (mis)management in postcommunist Bulgaria.  This work was supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and was shortlisted for the J. Warren Nystrom prize in 1998.  In 1996 Staddon joined the Department for Geography & Environmental Management at the University of the West of England, Bristol and is now Senior Lecturer in Geography and Founder-Director of the Bristol Group for Water Research.

Over the course of the last 15 years Staddon has pursued a variety of projects related to the social, political and economic issues related to sustainable resource management.  His current project, funded by the European Commission’s Framework Seven research funding initiative, involves a cross-national study of the public participation elements of sustainable water management programs in a selection of European and US jurisdictions.  He is also completing the manuscript for his next book, provisionally entitled Water Enough for Everyone?: Meditations on Water, Society and Climate Change.
